  1. Yom Hashoah

During the month of May, the Schwartz/Reisman Centre will be hosting many different events to honour Jewish Heritage Month. One of the most meaningful events for the staff and community is their annual Yom Hashoah commemoration.

Each year the centre hosts an observance to remember the lives of the six million Jews who died during the Holocaust. This year it was held on Thursday , May 5th at 10:45-11:30am in the East Atrium of the SRC. The ceremony was put on by JRoots and saw many staff members and students educate the crowd through a mix of videos, songs, poems, prayers. The commemoration culminated in a very special candle lighting ceremony.  The ceremony saw Board members and SRC staff join together with war veterans and Holocaust survivors to light candles in honour of those that we lost.

One of the most impactful parts of the ceremony was having the ability to hear a soldier’s first hand account of his time fighting in the war. Hearing about what he saw, felt and did struck a chord with every person seated in the building. As the years pass, we are losing more and more of the survivors who are able to share their experiences and stories. It is important to remember what they went through and to ensure that the future generations understand what sacrifices were made. It’s events like these that will ensure that for many years to come we  ‘Never Forget’.

Once in a while, you come across a video that really strikes a chord with you.Recently, TSN put together a video that did so for many, especially within the JCC community.

The Holocaust is something that we will never fully understand. There was so much senseless hate leading to the loss of so many lives. Yet, from the worst of times, come stories of hope and perseverance.

The TSN Original video teaches us about Hank Rosenbaum’s survival and his new beginning in Toronto. We learn about his connection to hockey and how important it is to him and his family.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
